HOW YOUR DONATION CAN HELP

St Mary's medium term crisis housing accommodation
St Mary's has some units available to house women and their children who are in need of low cost housing for up to two years. These women need specific support because they have come from refuges and are victims of abuse and homelessness.

Annually...

  • $5000 will cover the upkeep of one unit;
  • $1000 will assist a family to resettle into the community;
  • $1000 enables the Centre to assist a family in an immediate crisis situation.

Outreach
Outreach at St Mary's House takes the form of home visits to people who have been referred to the Centre by other Churches, welfare and government agencies and the police.

It also incorporates responding to those who ring the doorbell, most of whom are in a crisis situation and have lost all sense of self respect and dignity.

Annually...

  • $3000 will help the Centre respond to the 'on the spot' needs of individuals;
  • $3000 will help the Centre see them 'through' until other appropriate agencies can make their response;
  • $1000 will enable the Centre to attend to the healing process of regaining their self respect.
  • $40000 for Community Worker's Salary

Playgroup
Two mornings a week, Playgroup activities are offered to preschool children accompanied by their carers, who come from diverse cultural backgrounds. Playgroup provides an excellent opportunity for families to mix socially at low cost. Due to the increasing demand families are asked to choose between Monday and Wednesday mornings.

Annually...

  • $5000 will ensure the continued offering of this service, the maintenance and upgrade of related services.

English conversation classes
Between 50 - 60 adults from different cultural backgrounds come weekly to learn English and to socialise with each other. 15 volunteer tutors give of their time and annually give St Mary's House the equivalent of $48 000 of voluntary service.
